For Liaigre, the equestrian world is not just an influence but a direct source of inspiration, born from a deep connection to a lifestyle characterized by by a specifc, refined attire. This “attire” is inherently linked to horse riding and, more broadly, to equestrian sports, which require mastery and excellence. Such rigor is naturally reflected in the restrained environments where equestrian activities occur—from the architecture of stud farms to stables, and the art of saddlery—all contributing to the unique beauty of this universe. This subtle luxury undoubtedly captivated Christian Liaigre, a passionate equestrian himself. This source of inspiration repeatedly revealed itself in design projects, furniture and accessories, until it became one of the fundamentals of Liaigre’s style, bridging interiors with sport and the outdoors.

Christian Liaigre’s earliest creations reveal his profound appreciation and knowledge of the equestrian world—a world closely aligned with the values of fine craftsmanship and cabinetmaking. These disciplines emphasize sobriety, elegance, ergonomics, and the expertise of the saddler, cabinetmaker, or upholsterer, grounded in the nobility and authenticity of the materials used, such as leather or wood. These ostensibly simple materials unveil their nobility through a sensitive approach and meticulous application that highlights their beauty.

At Liaigre, noble, natural materials are both the starting point and the focus of creation. The finest woods, leathers, wool, cotton, cashmere, bronze, and marble are utilized to forge designs that are never frivolous. Unnecessary details are absent, ensuring that every line holds meaning and function. This quest for relevance is not just a requirement but also an aesthetic declaration or credo! The purity of the lines and the clarity of the designs emphasize the nobility of the materials and the excellence of their craftsmanship. We can, of course, talk about design, but we mustn’t forget to highlight the art of detail that Christian Liaigre has mastered and made distinctly his own: the detail that lies in the saddle-stitching of the leather on a bench or seat, the patina of a bronze object, or the delicately lacquered surface of a tabletop.

Etrier suspension and bench, Jumping chair, Cavalerie suspension, Poney stool – these objects clearly show their association to the equestrian aesthetic. Like most of the Studio’s furniture and lighting designs, they were created as part of a furnishing project. Their lines are often a subtle nod to objects associated with the world of horses. The studio also crafts unique pieces for specific projects, such as bronze coat hooks sculpted in the shape of horse heads. Perhaps the most emblematic creation is the Écuyer saddle rack. This piece is a true stylistic exercise, transforming a stable accessory into a collector’s item that could be pridefully placed in any room of the home.
