In 2015, Jean-Louis Costes commissioned Christian Liaigre to redesign and decorate the Hotel Lotti, which he had just acquired. Located between rue de Castiglione and rue Saint-Honoré, near Place Vendôme and the Tuileries Garden, this former luxury hotel had once welcomed royalty and numerous celebrities. Within this emblematic setting, Christian Liaigre drew on two inspirations: the spirit of a Parisian neo-classical private mansion and that of a loft. From the hotel lobby to the suites and guest rooms, all furniture was specifically designed for the project. The brief also included connecting the spaces of Hôtel Costes, originally designed by Jacques Garcia in 1995, with those of Hôtel Lotti and a third hotel on rue du Mont-Thabor. The three

properties were unified under the name Le Costes, accessible through a monumental entrance on rue de Castiglione. Christian Liaigre’s final major project, Le Costes, inaugurated in the early 2020s, embodies the Parisian and cosmopolitan spirit of a five-star hotel redefining the codes of hospitality. In 2024, Liaigre launched the Costes x Liaigre capsule collection, bringing together key furniture pieces originally created for the hotel. At the end of 2025, the opening of the Hôtel Costes Spa, developed in partnership with Augustinus Bader skincare, marked a new chapter in the ongoing dialogue between Studio Liaigre and Jean-Louis Costes.

Located in the basement of the hotel, this new 1,000-square-meter wellness space features a swimming pool, treatment rooms and a fitness area.

While Liaigre’s design language is defined by a pursuit of essentiality, this rigor finds its fullest expression within the spa. Luxury here is experienced as a sensation — the result of elegant volumes, harmonious lines, carefully chosen materials and tonalities, all enhanced by a subtle lighting design developed in close collaboration with lighting designer Arnold Chan (Isometrix).

Light emerges from the floor, creating an enveloping atmosphere as it gently grazes travertine walls and floors, smoked oak surfaces and lacquer finishes. Lighting is modulated according to the different “sequences” of the experience, entrance, circulation corridors, treatment rooms, relaxation areas, pool and fitness space. This sculptural approach to light, sometimes reduced to semi-darkness, immediately alters perception, transforming the spa experience into a true ritual of disconnection.

Within this cocoon, conceived entirely for comfort and calm, sharp angles have deliberately been eliminated. Rounded walls, seamless surfaces and softened materials respond both to pragmatic considerations, as in a spa or aboard a yacht, the partially unclothed body is more vulnerable, and to aesthetic intent. The resulting softness and tactile quality give the space a singular character.

In pursuit of coherence, platinum travertine, smoked oak, high-gloss liquidambar and lacquer echo materials used throughout other hotel spaces designed by Liaigre, as do the furniture pieces and lighting fixtures found within the spa. This continuity of decorative vocabulary, never repetitive, reinforces the identity of the place.

The focal point of the spa is a magnificent 20-meter swimming pool designed for lap swimming. The lagoon-colored mosaic basin, geometric coffered ceiling, and double treatment cabins opening onto the pool through large lacquered doors create a striking composition, complemented by Lagune lanterns and Emae wall sconces placed between each cabin.

The eight treatment rooms, accessed via quiet corridors, each feature a double-entry layout: an antechamber separated from the corridor by dark glass leads to a second entrance opening onto the treatment room itself, ensuring both comfort and privacy.

This exclusive haven of peace reflects Studio Liaigre’s commitment to cultivating functional elegance within a contemporary design vocabulary.
