Rive Gauche

This is a former art studio in a neighborhood of Paris where all the major avant-garde artists of the first half of the twentieth century were born. It was renovated by Liaigre at the behest of the owner, who grew up in it, restoring the feel of the original.

The central focus of the apartment is a large library that stretches all the way to the ceiling of the double-height main room. The solid steel beams and outsized spaces are reminiscent of the Maison de Verre, a veritable monument to modernist architecture built in 1932, also on the Left Bank, by Pierre Chareau for private clients

Not a single inch of space was lost in the renovation; on the contrary, space was gained and authenticity was restored.

Measuring just under one hundred square meters, the former studio includes a combined dining room and kitchen, a large bedroom, a nursery, a corner reading library, a living room, and a luxurious bathroom. Not a single inch of space was lost in the renovation; on the contrary, space was gained and authenticity was restored. The clean lines of the furnishings give the overall aesthetic an elegant modernity that turns this pied-à-terre in the heart of Paris into a warm, welcoming home.
